Department of Plant Anatomy and Cytology

The Department's research focuses on comprehensive structural and functional analysis of chloroplasts – from the formation and maturation of their membrane systems, through molecular regulation mechanisms and responses to abiotic stress, to potential bioinspired applications in biotechnology.

Department of Plant Bioenergetics

The research of the Department of Plant Bioenergetics focuses on the analysis of the role of the mitochondrial respiratory chain in maintaining redox homeostasis and on explaining the mechanisms of ammonium syndrome, including oxidative stress, dicarbonyl stress and metabolic disorders in plants.

Department of Systems Biology

The Department's research focuses on the regulation of gene expression by chromatin – it includes the role of SWI/SNF remodelers, Polycomb complexes and histones (including H1), stress-induced modifications of histone H3 and their impact on splicing and the proteome, as well as the search for chemical molecules capable of modulating plant growth and productivity.

Department of Plant Molecular Ecophysiology

The Department's research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying corn adaptation to cool spring conditions.

Department of Plant Metal Homeostasis

The Department's research focuses on the mechanisms of uptake, transport and distribution of microelements and ballast metals in plants, with particular emphasis on the phenomenon of cross-homeostasis, the interaction of the root system with the soil environment and their importance for the growth and optimal mineral composition of plants.
